The National Union of Lottery Agents and Employees of Nigeria raised the alarm on Thursday that some dubious lottery operators had invaded the Kano metropolis, Kano State, duping innocent residents.
The chairman of the Kano State council of the NULAEN, Chief Sydney Emeafu, said the operation of the unregistered lottery operators posed a danger to the economy of the state, as they would deprive the government of due revenue from lottery.
Emeafu said, “We frown on the current situation, where all kinds of lottery operators are springing up in all parts of Kano State; they are not registered with the appropriate agencies regulating the activities of lottery and sports bet operators, we will not tolerate that.”
Emeafu said the union, along with law enforcement agents and appropriate government agencies would soon move against the illegal lottery operators.
He cautioned those flouting the laws regulating lottery and sports bet operation to desist from the act, so as to avoid confrontation with the law.
The NULAEN urged the Kano State government to boost its revenue generation base by focusing attention on the activities of lottery and sports bet operators in the state.
